Very strong chess playing module (The King 2.5) |
| The most recent version of the chess
program The King is integrated
in TascBase 2.0. This version is the 1995 Dutch Champion, but there is
more! You can specify or change The King's properties. To name a few:
wood
value, weakness of doubled pawns, aggresiveness, etc. The programmer
Johan
de Koning has included some interesting alternative settings so that
you
can play against a completely different opponent, one that is very
solid
or one that is very aggressive. |
 |
Supports Ken Thompson endgame CD-ROMS (1, 2
and 3) |
| We have included an interface to the
well-known endgame CD-ROMS
of Ken Thompson. These CD-ROMS contain explicit win lengths for most of
the 5 piece endings. TascBase will request a specific CD-ROM whenever
it
is needed and produce a list of the best possibilities. |
 |
Index for searching and player index |
| Searching games by player name can
use indexes. These indexes increase
the already very good search speed, especially when searching on a
CD-ROM.
One of the indexes is used to create a list of players. You can scroll
and search in this list, look at the results of a player and instantly
request his or her games present. |
 |
Small improvements |
| Based on feedback from the users many
functions have been added
most of which add in the comfort of operating the program or are new
feautures
such as a quick method to find positions in the search environment. |
 |
Performance improvements |
| In a number of places the performance
is dramatically improved.
For instance the Database View scrolling is 200% faster and the
Optimize
Database function is much faster for big databases. Furthermore the
data
conversion tools and the Copy Games functions are faster. |
 |
Portable Game Notation (PGN) import and export |
| Because the Internet plays an
important role in communicating chess
games the most common way of communicating games - the PGN - is fully
supported.
This makes it very easy to import games from Internet. |
 |
Compiling tournament tables and performing elo
calculations |
| TascBase 2.0 is able to compile
tournament tables from a game collection.
It determines the final ranking, the SB-points, the elo performance and
the elo points gained or lost by each player. Output can be sent to
file
for further processing. |
 |
Automatically refining key structures |
| The database capabilities are
enhanced by including automatic keysplit
methods. For instance you can automatically split a key until no key
contains
more than 5 games. This is an ideal tool when a key is growing full, it
instantly shows what the main variations are. |
 |
Merging databases |
| In TascBase 2.0 you have the
possibility to import other databases.
In this way you can maintain small databases of specialized lines and
include
them in a big database when convenient. |
 |
Printing |
| Incorporate chess diagrams in your
word processiing documents using
the Truetype font included with TascBase. |
